Astros look vulnerable in the AL West. Is anyone ready to dethrone them?
Slowly but surely, the stars of Houston's 2017 World Series-winning team have scattered about in the years since. George Springer is in Toronto now, Alex Bregman in Boston and Carlos Correa in Minnesota. Justin Verlander pitches for San Francisco. Jose Altuve and Lance McCullers Jr. are still with the Astros, but it feels like it's only a matter of time before Houston's dominance of the AL ...
SF Giants' Encarnacion back from injured list, Matos optioned to Sacramento
Amid their offensive struggles, the Giants are getting a much-needed reinforcement. First baseman and corner outfielder Jerar Encarnacion, who missed the first 59 games of the season after a solid performance during spring training, was activated from the 60-day injured list Monday before the Giants faced the San Diego Padres to begin a seven-game homestand. In a corresponding move, San Francisco optioned outfielder Luis Matos, who homered in Sunday's 4-2 win, to Triple-A Sacramento.

Versatile Jerar Encarnación returns to Giants after March surgery on his broken left hand
Bob Melvin has been waiting for the chance to write Jerar Encarnación's name into San Francisco's lineup. The versatile Encarnación came off the 60-day injured list Monday and was available for the opener of a four-game series with the San Diego Padres at Oracle Park, though not yet in the starting lineup. Melvin hopes that he could start Tuesday — whether that's at first base or in right field. Encarnación underwent surgery in March on his broken left hand after he was injured trying to make a diving catch during spring training.

Which Giants Prospects Could Be Promoted to MLB Next?
The San Francisco Giants have had a number of young players making an impact at the Major League level over the last few years. Last season, it was infielder Tyler Fitzgerald who came out of nowhere, forcing his way into the lineup as an everyday player. Outfielder Heliot Ramos burst onto the scene in 2024, earning a spot on the National League All-Star team and emerging as a pillar of this franchise. On the mound, Ryan Walker became a late-game weapon out of the bullpen, earning the closer's role.

Another Former Rox Player Makes MLB Debut
(KNSI) – A second former Rox player has made his Major League Baseball debut in as many weeks. Jack Winkler played baseball for the Dons of the University of San Francisco and spent two summers in St. Cloud at Joe Faber Field. He took to the diamond for the Rox in 2020 and 2021. On Saturday, in a full-circle moment, Winkler was suited up for the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park, playing against the San Francisco Giants. He went 0-for-2 at the plate, but had plenty of company. The fish only had three hits and still pulled out a win, 1-0. Winkler did not get a plate appearance on Sunday. Winkler is the 393rd Northwoods League alum to play in the majors. ___ Copyright 2025 Leighton Media. All rights

Kurtenbach: The SF Giants have been treading water. That's not good enough moving forward
If the goal of a baseball season is genuinely as simple as winning more series than you lose, the San Francisco Giants just capped a strong road trip. It has been half a month since the Giants scored five runs in a game. The Giants' offense is, in a word, putrid. It's frankly incredible that San Francisco has been able to keep their head above water this long.
