Giants' offense again fails to reward stellar Webb outing vs. Angels
If that sounds familiar, it's because almost the exact same script played out in last week's 2-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Oracle Park. It's not a new phenomenon for Giants fans, who affectionately refer to it as "getting Cained." On April 7, Webb's stat line read seven innings, four hits, no runs and 10 strikeouts; he was credited with a no decision after departing a 0-0 ballgame.

'Grandson of the Wind' emerging as early MVP darkhorse for Giants
After a quiet and injury-shortened rookie season with the San Francisco Giants in 2024, Lee is rapidly emerging as one of baseball's early breakout stars in 2025. Through his first 18 games, the 25-year-old center fielder is slashing .348/.403/.652 with three home runs, 10 doubles, a triple, and 14 RBIs — numbers that have not only solidified his place in the Giants' lineup but also launched him into the national spotlight. “It's just cool to see him [succeed],” ace Logan Webb said. Lee's ascent is particularly significant for a franchise that's missed out on several superstar pursuits in recent years — from Bryce Harper and Aaron Judge to Carlos Correa and Shohei Ohtani.
SF Giants lose second straight despite Webb's gem against Angels
An overpowering performance by Logan Webb wasn't enough for the Giants to overcome their difficulties against left-handed pitchers Friday night. Lefty Tyler Anderson gave up no runs in six innings and three relievers finished things off for the Los Angeles Angels in a 2-0 win over the Giants at Angels Stadium. Webb (2-1) was dominant through six innings, tying his career high with 12 strikeouts in six innings with no walks. The Angels' 3-4-5 hitters – Mike Trout, Jorge Soler and Logan O'Hoppe – put the ball in play just once and Trout struck out three times.
Matt Chapman sounds off on lack of run support for Logan Webb in Giants loss to Angels
Logan Webb delivered one of his most dominant performances of the season on Friday night, but the San Francisco Giants failed to reward their ace with a win, falling 2-0 to the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium. Despite tying his career high with 12 strikeouts and issuing zero walks over six innings, Webb (2-1) took the loss. It marked the first time in Giants franchise history a pitcher recorded 12 or more strikeouts with no walks and was saddled with a loss. Webb allowed just four hits, two runs (one earned), and kept Angels stars Mike Trout, Jorge Soler, and Logan O'Hoppe in check — the trio put only one ball in play and struck out a combined six times.

Tyler Anderson stifles Giants as Angels end 4-game skid
On the night Zach Neto made his season debut, it was Tyler Anderson who once again set the Angels straight. Neto did his part with an RBI double in his first at-bat, but it was Anderson who turned halted the team's four-game losing streak with six strong innings in a 2-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday to open a three-game series. The last time the Angels won a game it was Anderson (2-0) who was on the mound Saturday in Houston. In fact, the Angels have won all four games the left-hander has started this season.
Ex-Yankees 1B Anthony Rizzo linked to NL West powerhouse in free agency
Anthony Rizzo is still a free agent. After playing in the World Series for the Yankees in 2024, Rizzo can't find a job in 2025. There's one team that needs a first baseman that is being urged by SI's Nick Ziegler to go get Rizzo. The Giants are relying on Lamonte Wade at first base, and he's underwhelmed this season.
Angels activate shortstop Zach Neto following shoulder injury and surgery last year
The Los Angeles Angels activated shortstop Zach Neto off the injured list before Friday night's series opener against the San Francisco Giants. The 24-year-old Neto injured his right shoulder injury when his arm got caught underneath his chest on a head-first slide into second base against the Chicago White Sox last Sept. 26. A first-round pick out of Campbell University in North Carolina in 2022, Neto hit .249 with a .761 OPS, 23 home runs, 34 doubles, 77 RBIs, 70 runs and 30 stolen bases in 155 games last season.
Giants whiff 14 times, drop 6-4 decision to Phillies in series finale
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Cristopher Sánchez struck out a career-high 12 over seven innings, and the Philadelphia Phillies scored five runs in the first as they beat the San Francisco Giants 6-4 on Thursday for a four-game split. Sánchez (2-0) allowed three runs — two earned — four hits and one walk. His previous strikeout high was 10 on three occasions. Sánchez got 11 of his strikeouts on changeups and threw changeups on 50 of 97 pitches. The Giants struck out 14 times total in the game. Giants notes: Key adjustment leads Chapman to big series vs. Phillies
Tyler Fitzgerald finally broke out this week, capping a big series against the Philadelphia Phillies with a solo homer in the ninth inning Thursday. Matt Chapman hit a two-run homer earlier in Thursday's loss and picked up three straight multi-hit games for the first time as a Giant. Over four days, Chapman raised his OPS from .687 to .803.
What to make of rough series for Giants rotation vs. Phillies
The Giants came away from Citizens Bank Park with a split, a positive for any team given that the Philadelphia Phillies have had the best home record in baseball over the past year and haven't lost any of their last 10 series in their own park. Melvin's starting pitchers gave up 10 runs in the first inning across four games, and twice he had to call down to the bullpen to get a reliever loose before the third out. The only reason he didn't do it a third time was because the bullpen was so taxed coming into Thursday's series finale that Melvin had no choice but to let Jordan Hicks try and get out of his own jam, even if that ended up leading to an uncomfortable pitch count. Hicks found a way to recover, and on a day when he watched the first five Phillies reach base, he ended up going seven and saving the bullpen in the middle of a stretch of 17 games in 17 days.
Ranking San Francisco Giants Biggest Trade Needs After Surprising Start
The San Francisco Giants have had surprisingly great start to the 2025 season, but there are still places that the team desperately needs to fix. It is hard to complain too much after the team has started 13-6, the third-best record in MLB, but the fact remains that they are also in the toughest division in baseball. The two teams ahead of them are also in the NL West, giving them very little wiggle room. By the time that the trade deadline comes around, the Giants should be sure to address the couple of weaknesses that are starting to form on their roster.
