Giants lose All-Star reliever to IL
2025 has not gone the way the San Francisco Giants intended. Although the team had hopes of contending for a playoff spot in manager Bob Melvin's first year, injuries and ineffectiveness have hampered the major league roster. Once again, the Giants were hit with a major injury blow. This time, according to longtime San Francisco beat writer Susan Slusser on X (formerly Twitter), it's All-Star reliever Randy Rodriguez. “Randy Rodriguez to the IL with an elbow sprain,” reported Slusser on Wednesday.

Rafael Devers, by contrast, will have a different reception awaiting him when he plays his first game at Fenway Park next August following an ugly fallout that ended with him being traded to San Francisco. Giants announcer Mike Krukow recently voiced his opinion that the team has handled Matos' development well, and he's reaping the benefits of that now.

Red Sox Were Closer To Acquiring All-Star Than Expected
The Boston Red Sox are all set at first base right now after landing Nathaniel Lowe, but it sounds like there was another guy who thought he could be coming to town. Now, we are about a month removed from the July 31st Major League Baseball trade deadline. Over the last few weeks, nuggets of information from around the trade deadline has started to come out. For example, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal shared on Monday that the Red Sox were one of the four teams that former Baltimore Orioles All-Star Ryan O'Hearn thought he was going to be traded to.
Amid a Tough Season for the Giants, Pitcher Logan Webb has been Rock Solid
While the San Francisco Giants have had several bumps in the road in 2025, they've also seen some young players begin to step up, some notable individual performances, and a few veterans who continue to chug along. Case in point: Veteran starter Logan Webb has quietly been one of MLB's most consistent pitchers for several years now. Webb (now 12-9 on the season) pitched six strong innings in a 7-1 victory against the Brew Crew on August 23, ending a four-game losing streak for San Francisco. Webb currently leads the National League in innings pitched and is on pace for his first 200-inning, 200-strikeout season.
