SF Giants players relish giving Bob Melvin a memorable home opener
In succession Friday afternoon, three of the biggest names to be brought on board over the winter were introduced as Giants for the first time at Oracle Park. There were no shortage of cheers for Blake Snell or Jung Hoo Lee, but the most raucous reception was reserved for Bob Melvin. As his name was announced by Hall of Famer Jon Miller, a video of Melvin crossing his arms appeared on the center field scoreboard, giving the 70-foot-tall version of the manager an almost omnipresent vantage point on the ballpark he now calls home in the community that he always has. “I wasn't expecting the thing on the scoreboard,” Melvin continued.

Padres' Michael King looks for support vs. Giants
Right-hander Michael King hopes his new teammates are as generous with their support as they've been in his first two starts of the season when the San Diego Padres visit the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. After the teams split four games to open the Giants' campaign in San Diego last week, San Francisco got a leg up when Thairo Estrada ended Friday's home opener with a walk-off double in the ninth inning of a 3-2 game. It was the sixth time already this season that San Diego has been held to three runs or fewer, with five of those games ending in losses. Rather, the first-year Padre has benefited from 28 runs of support in his two appearances — a 15-11 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 21 in South Korea and a 13-4 triumph over the Giants last Sunday in San Diego.

Lee has now reached base safely in seven of his first eight games but had only scored once prior to Saturday — on his own solo home against the Padres, March 30. Lee lined out to first baseman Jake Cronenworth to start the third and grounded out to Cronenworth again in the fifth.
