Giants' Bob Melvin reveals why he let Justin Verlander throw 121 pitches
The San Francisco Giants beat the Baltimore Orioles 13-2 on Sunday to secure a series win in The Bay. Justin Verlander twirled five shutout innings in the game, striking out ten batters on 121 pitches. Manager Bob Melvin spoke with Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle about why he left Verlander out there. “In a day you feel like you're penalizing someone if they throw 100 pitches, to throw 120 in five innings, he didn't want to hear anything about coming out of the game,” Melvin said, per Rubin.

Tony Mansolino's fearless take on what's ahead for Orioles
The final month of the 2025 regular season is going to be nothing more than preparation for the upcoming season for the Baltimore Orioles. Their playoff hopes have long been dashed, and losses like the 3-1 defeat they suffered on Sunday to the San Francisco Giants aren't going to help matters whatsoever. Nothing is going to come easy for the Orioles, however, as they enter this preparation phase. In fact, they will be facing the New York Yankees seven times, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, and San Diego Padres three times each.
