Giants' Justin Verlander quietly turning 2025 season around
When Justin Verlander signed with the San Francisco Giants this past offseason, the idea was that Verlander would have a bounce-back season. While summer is at its hottest, so is Verlander. Over Verlander's last five starts, he is looking like his old self. Jon Morosi believes Verlander could pitch one more season in what could potentially be a farewell tour for the future Hall of Famer.
Are Giants Fans Calling for Bob Melvin to be Fired?
The San Francisco Giants entered the 2025 MLB season looking like playoff contenders. Unfortunately for the team and manager Bob Melvin, their dreams of playing in the postseason have now become a nightmare, as the club continues to sputter down the stretch. Melvin is a former Giants catcher who returned to the organization in 2024, after stints as the skipper of the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, Oakland A's, and San Diego Padres.
How Bay FC convinced NWSL to agree to record-breaking game at Oracle Park
To break a record, Bay FC had to break the rules. “There was some history back in the early days in the league of some not great experiences on baseball pitches,” said team CEO Brady Stewart, who helped pave the way to Saturday's match at Oracle Park against the Washington Spirit. The waterfront home of MLB's San Francisco Giants has hosted a handful of international friendlies over the years, but this will be the first time it welcomes two women's teams. The team announced Wednesday that it had sold more than 35,000 tickets, toppling the attendance record set last year by the Chicago Red Stars in a match at Wrigley Field.
Gavin Sheets seeks to power Padres to series win vs. Giants
In making five deals on the trade deadline day last month, the San Diego Padres sought to fix weaknesses. One of the newer strengths manifested itself in Wednesday night's 8-1 rout of the visiting San Francisco Giants. Gavin Sheets, who started for most of the first four months but has been a bit player over the last three weeks, got his second straight start with center fielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) sidelined and hit a pair of home runs. Sheets and the Padres will look for a series win on Thursday afternoon the finale of a four-game set in San Diego.

Giants' Lee Jung-hoo belts second career leadoff home run

SF Giants prospect Blade Tidwell to undergo MRI due to shoulder discomfort
Blade Tidwell was knocking on the door of making his Giants debut, but now it's possible he may have to wait until next season. Tidwell, who is currently pitching for Triple-A Sacramento, experienced discomfort in his right shoulder following a recent bullpen session, according to manager Bob Melvin, and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday. The 24-year-old right-hander was one of three players that the Giants acquired in the deal that sent reliever Tyler Rogers to the New York Mets, the other two being right-hander José Buttó and outfielder Drew Gilbert.
SF Giants' Roupp diagnosed with left knee sprain, carted off field in loss to Padres
Landen Roupp was only acting on instinct. When Ramón Laureano smashed a comebacker in his direction, Roupp followed a basic human impulse by trying to get out of the way. The ball still banged off his right hamstring, and as he fell backwards, his left knee awkwardly bent and he immediately collapsed. Roupp tried to rise back to his feet but fell back to the ground.
