August 22, 1965: The Marichal-Roseboro Incident
August 22, 1965, 60 years ago: The ugliest moment in the nasty rivalry between the Dodgers and the Giants occurs at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. As bad as it was when it was the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants from 1889 to 1957, nothing like this ever happened then. The key figures were Dodger catcher John Roseboro and Giant pitcher Juan Marichal.
Bob Melvin gets brutally honest on Giants' 'awful' showing in loss to Padres
After being competitive for much of the first half of the 2025 season, the San Francisco Giants have gradually fallen off, and their Thursday night contest against the San Diego Padres did not help matters whatsoever. It was a disastrous fifth inning that did the Giants in. After the Padres tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the floodgates opened for the Giants in the following inning, with veteran starting pitcher Justin Verlander following up his season-best start with a calamitous inning in which he allowed five earned runs. Relief pitcher Matt Gage only piled on the misery, allowing another run to give the Padres six in the fifth — giving them an 8-2 lead that the Giants could not recover from.
SF Giants continue to slide, drop three of four to Padres
The Giants were already clinging to their paper-thin playoff hopes when they flew south to San Diego for a four-game series against the Padres. As things stand, San Francisco will spend the next five weeks playing out the string. With a sloppy 8-4 loss on Thursday at Petco Park, the Giants have lost 10 of their last 12 games. To top it off, right-hander Landen Roupp may be done for the season after sustaining an ugly left knee sprain on Wednesday.
Giants' Lee Jung-hoo extends season-best hitting streak to 10 games
Lee Jung-hoo has now had a base hit in 10 straight games for the San Francisco Giants. Lee batted 1-for-3 with a walk in an 8-4 loss to the San Diego Padres at Petco Park in San Diego on Thursday, stretching his season-best hit streak to 10 games. Lee is batting .262 for the season and .338 for August.

SF Giants' Peguero earns first call-up, Whisenhunt to start on Friday
The Giants made a slew of roster moves prior to Thursday afternoon's series finale at Petco Park, the headliner being the team's decision to select the contract of right-hander Joel Peguero and grant him his first major-league call-up. Additionally, the team optioned right-hander Kai-Wei Teng and outfielder Grant McCray to Triple-A Sacramento; recalled outfielder Luis Matos from the River Cats and transferred Erik Miller to the 60-day injured list.
Giants' Justin Verlander Should Have Plenty of Suitors in Free Agency
Despite a strong start to the season, things have gone in the wrong direction of late for the San Francisco Giants. For a good chunk of the year, the Giants were a playoff contender in the National League. The Giants showed some signs of improvement, but this is still a team that has some flaws to address. As planning for the 2026 campaign has likely begun, San Francisco will have to decide on a veteran pitcher who has performed well for them.
