What we learned as Giants' comeback attempt falls short in tough NL West loss to Padres
On a Tuesday night in April, the Padres drew 47,345 fans to Petco Park, the second-largest crowd in the ballpark's history. It certainly helped that they gave out Tony Gwynn bobbleheads, but still, this has become the norm in San Diego, where they already have 15 sellouts this season. The Giants fell behind early and their latest comeback attempt fell short. The comebacks won't be as easy against the San Diego bullpen.

Infielder Luis Arraez and outfielder Jason Heyward are both returning from the injury list, the Padres announced. As a result, infielder Yuli Gurrie was designated for assignment while infielder Mason McCoy was placed on the 10-day IL to make room on the roster.

SF Giants prepare for first-place showdown against Tatis-led Padres
Following one of the most memorable walk-offs in Oracle Park's history, the Giants enter their first off day in two-and-a-half weeks with a 19-10 record and stand atop of the NL West. Now, they travel to San Diego for their first intradivision matchup of the season, a two-game set against the team that has spent more days in first this month than anyone else in the star-studded division. “I remember last year, it was always fun battling against those guys,” Giants starter Jordan Hicks said. The Padres seemed poised to take a bit of a step back after winning 93 games and taking the eventual World Series champion Dodgers to five games in their NL Division Series.
Willy Adames reveals Buster Posey's crucial impact in Giants free agency decision
Willy Adames agreed to a contract with the San Francisco Giants in MLB free agency this past offseason. The $182 million contract certainly played a role in his decision, but Adames also credited Giants' president of baseball operations (and former All-Star catcher) Buster Posey. “I feel like with him (Posey) it was easy because, like, we didn't even talk about money until, like, the last few days,” Adames said recently, via Chris Rose Sports.

San Francisco Giants Are Wasting Future Ace by Using Him in Bullpen
The San Francisco Giants are one of the stories of the season in the early going with a record of 19-10 headed into the new week. Against all odds, the Giants find themselves on top of the biggest gauntlet of a division in baseball a full month into the year despite not being expected by most to make serious noise. It's still early in a long season, but San Francisco is finding ways to win the kinds of games that they couldn't last year and for the better part of the last decade. In terms of the pitching staff, the Giants are second in all of baseball in bullpen ERA with a team mark of 2.30.
Nick Pivetta aims to keep stellar start going as Padres host Giants
Nick Pivetta didn't have a job for 2025 until Feb. 17, when he signed a four-year deal with the San Diego Padres. Just over a month into the season, Pivetta has authored the best start to a year by any starting pitcher in club history. Coming off a 2-0 win in Detroit that saw him last seven shutout innings for the third time in five starts, Pivetta is 4-1 with a 1.20 earned run average. How does a guy who came into the season 56-71 with an ERA closer to 5.00 than 4.00 suddenly become a 2025 version of Greg Maddux, albeit with more velocity?
