Why SF Giants decided to end Reggie Crawford's two-way path
It was an unfair comparison from the start, but Reggie Crawford will not be the next Shohei Ohtani. The two-way player the Giants selected 30th overall in the 2022 amateur draft is abandoning that path to pursue a one-way track to the major leagues. Crawford, 23, will put down the bat and shift all of his focus to what he can do with his left arm, which can pump triple-digit heaters out of his 6-foot-4 frame. According to Crawford, it was decision he came to recently after “a lot of thinking and weighing the pros and cons.”

Cobb progressing, feeling 'great' after offseason hip surgery
As Alex Cobb spoke to reporters Wednesday morning, a steady stream of young pitchers walked by and wished him a good morning. Cobb was an easy target for Webb, and not just because they've been teammates and friends for a couple of seasons. At 36, he easily is the oldest player on the roster and he's one of just two Giants with more than 10 years of service time. As he starts his 13th MLB season, Cobb has two full years on the other one, Wilmer Flores.

SF Giants replace one Tommy John patient with another in opportunistic roster move
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — There was much speculation that Wednesday would be the day the dam broke in baseball's glacial free agency. Teams were allowed to transfer players to the 60-day injured list, opening up spots on the 40-man for potential additions without any waiver-wire casualties. The Giants opened one slot, placing one player recovering from Tommy John surgery on the 60-day, and filled it immediately with another. Right-hander Austin Warren will take Robbie Ray's spot on San Francisco's roster, but like Ray, Warren won't be ready to start the season. Health the biggest question for new Twins pitcher DeSclafani
FORT MYERS, Fla. — When Anthony DeSclafani is healthy, he's shown during his nine-year career he can be an effective option for the starting rotation. Health is the big qualifier. DeSclafani earned himself a three-year, $36 million contract in free agency following his last full season. He posted a 13-7 record and a 3.17 ERA in 31 starts with the San Francisco Giants in 2021. Since then, he ...
SF Giants spring training injury updates: 2 young pitchers sidelined before camp begins
The plan for Reggie Crawford, the two-way player the Giants selected with the first pick of the 2022 draft, was to set aside the bat and focus the bulk of his work this spring on his pitching development. “It's unfortunate it happened before we even started up,” manager Bob Melvin said. While Crawford, who hasn't played above Single-A, wasn't being evaluated for the Opening Day roster, the Giants lost the opportunity to see another pitcher who could help them this season. Right-hander Kai-Wei Teng will be shut down for the next two to three weeks, according to the club, after straining his oblique during a pre-spring bullpen.

SF Giants pre-spring training roster projection: How they get from 65 to 26
Over the next six weeks, the 65 San Francisco Giants in major-league camp will be whittled down to 26. With pitchers and catchers set for their first workout Wednesday, let's take a first crack at how the roster will shape up by Opening Day. It's a good bet that Blake Sabol is the only contestant who remains in the organization by the following Opening Day, though with a full set of options the former Rule 5 pick will likely start the season with Triple-A Sacramento. Joey Bart is still around, but as the No. 3 backstop at best without any minor-league options left, the former No. 2 overall pick seems destined to be traded by the end of camp, when he must either be added to the active roster or placed on waivers.
SF Giants spring training starts today: Here's everything you need to know
On Wednesday, they'll hold their first workout, with position players set to join them next week — without Brandon Crawford for the first time since 2009. With a change of the guard on the infield and the dugout bench, this camp promises to provide plenty of intrigue. New manager Bob Melvin will be attempting to guide the team back to the postseason for the first time in three years — and vanquish the mighty Dodgers, defending National League champion Diamondbacks and his former Padres in the process. Promptly at 9:30 Wednesday morning, Melvin will appear in the first base dugout of Scottsdale Stadium, take a seat on the metal bench and meet reporters for the ritualistic manager's media session that will repeat hundreds of times over the course of the season.
