Giants notes: Wade had one offseason goal for 2025 season
It's a level that even Juan Soto, the game's best on-base machine, has found hard to reach. When LaMonte Wade Jr. hurt his hamstring last year, he was carrying a .470 on-base percentage. Wade went down two months into the season, and from that point on he never felt the same. The first baseman rushed to get back for the historic game at Rickwood Field but fell short.
San Francisco Giants Counting on Veteran Cy Young Winner's Return to Form
Logan Webb eats innings and performs at an All-Star level. Kyle Harrison is the burgeoning young star looking for more consistency. Justin Verlander is the three-time Cy Young winner trying to reclaim his form. Robbie Ray is trying to get back to the form he flashed he won the 2021 Cy Young award with the Toronto Blue Jays.
SF Giants maintaining faith in Doval despite last year's lows
Camilo Doval understands where he stands in the bullpen's pecking order. Doval, 27, experienced the nadir of his major-league career last year. The Giants, though, are maintaining their confidence. “When you get humbled, you have to look at things a little differently and I think he does,” manager Bob Melvin said Saturday as the Giants concluded the opening week of spring training.
Giants notes: Bulked-up Hicks ready for second shot in rotation
The Giants will have a competition for their final rotation spot, but it wouldn't have shocked anyone if they came to camp with plans to have multiple pitchers compete for two spots this spring. Buster Posey was not the one who signed Jordan Hicks to be a starter, but from the start of the offseason the president of baseball operations has been adamant that the right-hander's role isn't changing. It was an up and down first year in orange and black for Hicks, who ended the 2024 MLB season in the bullpen, and team officials did give him a heads up that they might add rotation help in the offseason.

Marco Luciano gets real on position change before Giants 2025 season
As the San Francisco Giants prepare for the Spring ball, Marco Luciano embraces change as he prepares for the 2025 MLB season with the Giants. Once considered the franchise's shortstop of the future, Luciano is transitioning to the outfield, a move designed to help him regain his confidence at the plate while contributing defensively in a less demanding role. Luciano admitted that last season was a struggle. “Last year I was lost, totally lost in the batter's box,” Luciano said through a team interpreter.
San Francisco Giants Star Has Turned Beautifully Violent Swing Into Power Stroke
There is going to be a lot of pressure on the left side of the San Francisco Giants infield to carry the load offensively during the 2025 season. Shortstop Willy Adames was signed to be an impact hitter, providing elite production at the plate from the shortstop position. A big reason for his bounce back performance after a surprisingly underwhelming 2023 was the increase in swing speed. Adames isn't the only San Francisco player who experienced a jump in his swing speed in 2024, as third baseman Matt Chapman also made the list.
SF Giants' Luciano hoping to 'find myself' after disappointing 2024 season
Marco Luciano, by his own admission, was “totally lost” in the batter's box last season. A year removed from being the heir apparent to Brandon Crawford, Luciano enters camp trying to win a spot on the bench — as an outfielder. Luciano is in a new position, defensively and organizationally. Over the next six weeks, he'll be tasked with proving he deserves a spot on the Giants' Opening Day roster.
Murphy expected to be Bailey's backup but Giants have options
The Giants are run by one of the best catchers in MLB history and have a catcher as their manager. Patrick Bailey is coming off his first Gold Glove Award and enters his third season as a heavy favorite to win another one. Bob Melvin plans to keep leaning heavily on Bailey, who rarely asks for a breather, but when the manager needs the backup, there will be a familiar answer. President of baseball operations Buster Posey and general manager Zack Minasian brought three new catching options to camp, but Posey said this week that he doesn't see anyone other than Tom Murphy being Bailey's backup at the end of camp.

San Francisco Giants May Struggle Despite Significant Offseason Investments
With Spring Training here for the San Francisco Giants, the team will be hoping to snap out of what has been years of mediocrity. Before the start of the offseason, the Giants made a significant decision in their front office to fire Farhan Zaidi and hire president of baseball operations Buster Posey and general manager Zack Minasian. Due to San Francisco missing out on marquee-free agents the last several years, the hope was that adding Posey especially would help them gain credibility. This offseason, the Giants were able to land one of the top free agents on the market in Willy Adames, which will help be a boost for their lineup.
