What we learned during SF Giants' action-packed first half
It was after the Giants swept the Houston Astros in early April that Landen Roupp provided a message to the baseball world. “If you don't know by now, we're pretty good,” Roupp said, “and we're going to be good.”
Shohei Ohtani to hit leadoff for NL in All-Star Game, followed by Ronald Acuña Jr. of host Braves
Shohei Ohtani will bat leadoff as the designated hitter for the National League in Tuesday night's All-Star Game at Truist Park, and the Los Angeles Dodgers star will be followed in the batting order by left fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. of the host Atlanta Braves. Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte will hit third in the batting order announced Monday by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, followed by Los Angeles first baseman Freddie Freeman, San Diego third baseman Manny Machado, Dodgers catcher Will Smith, Chicago Cubs right fielder Kyle Tucker, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor and Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.
This Veteran Slugger Has Been Giants' Best Everyday Player So Far
The arrival of the 2025 All-Star break has given every team in baseball a much-needed break from the never-ending grind of the season and the opportunity to look back on how they've performed so far this year. The San Francisco Giants, for their part, have once again found themselves in the race for the NL West pennant after essentially being non-factors over the past several seasons. What's most impressive about the success the Giants have found so far is the fact that they've remained one of the game's top sides despite some pretty significant struggles at the plate. Just about every San Francisco hitter has been rather unreliable in 2025, which has in turn led to the team going through long spells of low output at the dish.
MLB Draft Day 2: Who are the SF Giants adding to their prospect pool?
The Giants used their first two selections of the 2025 MLB draft on a pair of contact-oriented, middle-of-the-diamond position players by selecting Tennessee shortstop Gavin Kilen in the first round and Rutgers outfielder Trevor Cohen in the third round. On the draft's second day, San Francisco will have 16 picks from rounds 4-20. Along with not having a second-round pick, the Giants also will not have a fifth-round pick after signing Willy Adames to a seven-year, $182 million deal.
