San Francisco Giants Prospect With 20/20 Potential Garnering Attention With Play

Mon, 2025-05-26 14:30

When the San Francisco Giants hired Buster Posey to take over as their president of baseball operations, he knew that he had his work cut out for him. The team has been painfully mediocre since he announced his retirement following the 2021 campaign, the last time the Giants also qualified for the postseason. There were clear needs on the Major League roster. Another issue Posey has seemingly erased early in his tenure was landing big names in free agency.

SF Giants Willy Adames kills rallies in 3-1 series-opening loss in Detroit

Mon, 2025-05-26 13:26

Giants manager Bob Melvin insists Willy Adames' clutch hitting “is going to come.” It repeatedly did not come in Monday's 3-1, series-opening loss at Detroit, and Adames' offensive woes are blindingly reflective of the Giants' anemic output over the past nine games. The Giants (31-23) managed just five hits and none went for extra bases against the American League Central-leading Tigers (35-20). Adames went 0-for-4 for a second straight afternoon, and that is not what the Giants banked on when signing him to a seven-year, $182 million deal.

Nationals Notebook: Everybody's talking about the new kids in town

Mon, 2025-05-26 12:56

The Washington Nationals have one of the youngest rosters in baseball. Prime prospect Robert Hassell III made his major league debut two months after putting the team on notice as a spring training sensation (Hassell posted a team-high 17 hits while batting .370 over 21 exhibitions) and went 2-5 with two runs scored. Jarlin Susana, when do we see your arm (don't hold your breath as he's still at AA Harrisburg)? Hassell was joined by Daylen Lile later in the week as the 2021 second-round pick reached the show as well.

Mon, 2025-05-26 11:56

Tigers center fielder Javy Baez was ejected from Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants for arguing a called third strike. Baez was ejected in the bottom of the fifth inning by home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi in the game at Comerica Park.

Giants Receive Awful Re-Grade for Signing Star Slugger This Past Offseason

Mon, 2025-05-26 11:00

The San Francisco Giants continue to play extremely well this season, but shockingly, their new additions haven't contributed much so far. With a record well over .500 and right in the mix in the National League West, the Giants have been a pleasant surprise this year. Buster Posey went with much of the same with just a couple of notable additions, but players who were either hurt or underperformed in 2024 have been much better. Hopefully, some of these struggling sluggers get it going soon, and if that happens, San Francisco might be able to get even better.

Giants predicted to acquire $13 million Orioles hurler in surprise trade

Mon, 2025-05-26 10:54

The San Francisco Giants are hanging in tough, but this won't be an easy playoff race by any means. After a 19-10 start, the Giants have been a .500 team in May. At 31-22, they're one game up on the St. Louis Cardinals for the third Wild Card spot, if you believe those things matter yet at this time of year. Whether it's more pitching or a new first baseman, the Giants could certainly use reinforcements at the trade deadline to keep pace in the playoff race.

Ray moves to 7-0 with 6 strong innings, Huff homers and Giants beat Nats 3-2

Mon, 2025-05-26 09:56

WASHINGTON (AP) — Robbie Ray pitched six strong innings to improve to 7-0, Sam Huff homered and the San Francisco Giants hung on to beat the Nationals 3-2 on Sunday and take two of three at Washington. Ray allowed a run on three hits and struck out seven without a walk, lowering his ERA to 2.56. Washington's CJ Abrams led off the ninth with a double off of closer Ryan Walker. James Wood drove Abrams in with a one-out double to make it 3-2, but Walker retired the next two batters to earn his 10th save. The AL Cy Young Award winner in 2021 with Toronto, Ray became the second Giants pitcher in the past 30 years to start a season 7-0 after Kevin Gausman did it in 2021. The Giants are 10-1 in Ray's

Giants' Odd Pitching Connection to Recent All-MLB Quarter Century Team

Mon, 2025-05-26 08:00

Recently the San Francisco Giants had three selections as a publication tried to pitch the best players of the last 25 years. The Athletic's Jayson Stark (subscription required) selected his MLB all-quarter century team and the Giants were prominent on the team. One was left fielder Barry Bonds, which makes plenty of sense.

Hayden Birdsong looks to lock in permanent spot in Giants' rotation

Sun, 2025-05-25 23:20

Hayden Birdsong began the season as a long reliever. The San Francisco Giants right-hander was so effective in that role, he earned an opportunity to join the starting rotation. Birdsong will make his second start of the season in the opener of a three-game series at Detroit on Monday afternoon. In his first start, Birdsong limited Kansas City to one unearned run in five innings on Tuesday.
