Giants Named Trade Fit for Reclamation Project Former Superstar Cy Young Winner

Thu, 2025-05-29 19:00

The San Francisco Giants find themselves in an interesting position. Not expected to do much this season by analysts and pundits alike, they have been one of the biggest surprises during the early going of the campaign, owning a 31-25 record that is the seventh-best mark in the National League. The Giants don't have a strong farm system to deal from, so that will make it difficult for them to land some of the top-tier players who are placed on the trade block. In the mind of CBS Sports' R.J. Anderson, he believes Sandy Alcantara would be a fit for San Francisco if they are willing to take that risk.

Carrollton's Sam Coonrod on path back to MLB, signs with Twins

Thu, 2025-05-29 17:57

After stepping away as a player in 2024, Sam Coonrod gave baseball another shot in 2025. It took the 32-year-old pitcher from Carrollton just six games and 6 1/3 innings with the independent minor league Gateway Grizzlies to make Major League Baseball take notice. The 2011 Carrollton High School graduate has been signed by the Minnesota Twins and assigned to their Triple-A affiliate St. Paul (Minn.) Saints. A 6-foot-1, 225-pound right-hander, Coonrod spent five MLB seasons with the San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets from 2019-23.

San Francisco Giants Star Prospect Heading in Right Direction of Updated Rankings

Thu, 2025-05-29 16:00

The San Francisco Giants have a massive hole to fill in their lineup at first base. LaMonte Wade Jr. has been able to stay healthy this season, but has not been able to replicate the production that he has provided over the last few years. Entering play on May 29, he has an OPS+ of 61 with a .171/.278/.279 slash line, hitting one home run, eight doubles, two triples and knocking in 15 runs. With a -1.1 bWAR, his playing time should be scaled back with the Giants seeking out an upgrade at the corner infield spot.

Barry Tompkins: Striking out and striking it rich

Thu, 2025-05-29 15:50

It seems that while they are playing major league baseball — and doing quite well at it — they are hitting the ball like Little Leaguers. After all, I once  hit almost .300 for Fulton Playground in the San Francisco Park and Rec league. When baseball's started to bend when thrown I made LaMonte Wade, Patrick Bailey, and Willy Adames look like Willie Mays. Alas, every pitcher in the major leagues is now capable of throwing a ball at speeds that can create a sonic boom, and possesses a changeup that would keep my chiropractor in business for a decade.

How Is Giants Bullpen Order Affected by Changing Closers?

Thu, 2025-05-29 14:00

It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the San Francisco Giants made the change to put Camilo Doval back into the closer role amid Ryan Walker's struggles, but they made it official after Wednesday's loss. Last year, when Doval was going through the worst season of his career that resulted in a 4.88 ERA and demotion to the minors at one point, Walker looked like a future star with his sizzling 1.91 ERA. With the closer role now being changed, how that impacts the Giants remains to be seen, but it does suggest there will be some adjustments to how other relievers are going to be used. Nick San Miguel of Around the Foghorn took a look at the bullpen and how everyone might be utilized, listing who he believes will be the high-leverage guys and when each arm might get deployed.

Giants in search of offense against error-prone Marlins

Thu, 2025-05-29 13:59

As the San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins open a three-game series in Florida, one team struggling on offense will meet another having issues with their gloves. Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison (0-1, 3.86 ERA) and Marlins right-hander Cal Quantrill (3-4, 6.09 ERA) are the announced starters in hopes of more support than their teammates have provided in recent outings. Making his first start of the season, Harrison got no offensive backing in a 3-0 loss at Washington on Saturday.

Buster Posey Believes Patience Will Pay Off With This San Francisco Giants Slugger

Thu, 2025-05-29 11:00

It's fair to expect slumps throughout the course of a 162-game season, but the San Francisco Giants are running out of time to find that spark on offense. The Giants have fought to stay competitive in the National League West and remain in that race, but the pitching staff has covered up many blemishes for the struggles at the plate. In their hot 12-5 start, San Francisco was boasting a 101 wRC+. Buster Posey took over as president of baseball operations to help attract talent to the roster, and his first move was to award the largest contract ever given in franchise history to a slugger who hasn't lived up close to the value.

Thu, 2025-05-29 09:46

The San Francisco Giants are 31-25 and part of a tight race atop the National League West. The Dodgers are not running away with the division like many expected. The Giants have gotten a 3.74 ERA from their starters, which is better than both of the teams in front of them in the division.

San Francisco Giants Manager Bob Melvin Announces Seismic Change to Bullpen Roles

Wed, 2025-05-28 19:00

The San Francisco Giants have made some major changes to their bullpen recently, some because of ineffective play and others out of necessity. With Jordan Hicks struggling in some facets as a starter, the Giants decided to move him back to the bullpen, swapping roles with Hayden Birdsong. When Justin Verlander went on the injured list, someone needed to step into his role. San Francisco decided to tab Kyle Harrison, who was promoted when Lou Trivino was designated for assignment, to take his place.

Giants Skipper's NSFW Hot Mic Exchange Illustrates Frustrating Offensive Slump

Wed, 2025-05-28 17:00

The San Francisco Giants are seeing their hot streak sputter out after a surprisingly dominant start to their 2025 season campaign. The Giants sit four games out of first place in the National League West after dropping a third straight game to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. The 4-3 loss showed a lack of discipline, with all four runs coming in the fifth inning. The series sweep was a bit more demoralizing following manager Bob Melvin's outburst that led to an ejection Tuesday night.
