Giants Minor League Outfielder Has Had an Absolutely Nuclear Start to August
The San Francisco Giants have had an extremely topsy-turvy 2025 season by pretty much all accounts. One second, they were at the top of the National League West, competing with the best of the best, and the next, they were selling off veteran pieces at the MLB trade deadline. It is unclear the vision of the franchise heading into August and September, as they sit with a 58-57 record in third place in the division. One of the names that has started to really break out in a big way through his first few games in August is outfielder Carter Howell, currently with Double-A Richmond.
VFL Drew Gilbert called up by San Francisco Giants
Gilbert is the tenth Vol to reach the big leagues in the Tony Vitello coaching era and the eighth from Tennessee's 2022 team. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The San Francisco Giants called up VFL and former outfielder Drew Gilbert, the team announced on X. Gilbert was selected No. 28 overall in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros. The Stillwater, Minnesota native was traded to the Mets by the Astros in 2023, but just recently, on July 30, the Mets traded Gilbert and former Vols pitcher Blade Tidwell as part of a package to get pitcher Tyler Rogers from the Giants.
Injuries Force the Giants to make Adjustments to their Starting Rotation
To say that the San Francisco Giants have been hit with some setbacks in 2025 would be a major understatement. The latter of which has forced manager Bob Melvin's hand, as he will revamp his rotation tonight against the Washington Nationals. Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle shared on social media that reliever Matt Gage would take the mound to start the game tonight at Oracle Park. The lefthander is 3-1 with a 1.43 ERA in 28 relief appearances on the season.
MLB Insider Labels Rafael Devers Trade 'Godsend' For Red Sox
When the Boston Red Sox traded disgruntled slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on June 15, the benefits of the deal went far beyond improving the vibe in the clubhouse and adding fresh faces to the organization. With the Giants taking on the roughly $270 million remaining on Devers' contract, the Red Sox regained the necessary financial flexibility to invest in other high-impact players. It comes as little surprise that some of that money recovered from the Devers trade was redirected toward locking up rookie phenom Roman Anthony. The Red Sox wasted little time attempting to lock up the 21-year-old outfielder by coming to terms on an eight-year $130 million contract extension with escalators that could bring the total value of the deal to $230 million when all is said and done.
Buster Posey discusses the Future of the Giants' Top Prospect
The San Francisco Giants have an emerging slugger in their Minor League system who already has many Bay Area backers buzzing. Bryce Eldridge, the club's first-round pick (16th overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft, has been rising rapidly through the team's farm system and is currently thriving with Triple-A Sacramento. Ironically, the 20-year-old's immediate success has the Giants in a bit of a quandary. At this point, President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey seems to have his eyes set on 2026 and beyond.
Giants Newest First Round Pick Gavin Kilen Hits Major Minor League Milestone
The San Francisco Giants do not have a farm system considered to be anywhere near the best in baseball and lack the kind of top end talent many of their rivals have. The newest prospect in the system though could be looking to change that reality just weeks after being selected by the Giants. Back in July, San Francisco used their first round selection -- No. 13 overall -- on Tennessee Volunteers infielder Gavin Kilen following a huge season in the SEC. Kilen is getting a chance to get his feet wet here at the back end of the minor league season with Single-A San Jose, and on Thursday he filled up the stat sheet for the first time.
Giants vs. Nationals Betting Preview
Time is running out on the San Francisco Giants (58-57) and their hopes for a playoff berth in the National League. Granted, there are 47 games remaining in the regular season, but the Giants are headed home on a positive note. After splitting the first two games at PNC Park, the Giants rallied for two runs in the ninth inning on Wednesday to capture a 4-2 victory. San Francisco picked up a bit of revenge after Pittsburgh went into Oracle Park and swept the Giants in late July.

When will a call-up come for Bryce Eldridge?
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – The San Francisco Giants had Thursday off. But just because they didn’t play a game doesn’t mean there isn’t talk about what their lineup will look like in the next few weeks. Specifically when it comes to Bryce Eldridge, a 20-year-old first baseman who is their No. 1 prospect. He […]
