Giants trade idea lands them breakout slugger to boost ailing offense
A slumping San Francisco Giants offense got even more bad news this week when star third baseman Matt Chapman landed on the injured list. With Jung Hoo Lee (.239/.288/.352 since April 19 ) and Mike Yastrzemski (.181/.264/.234 since May 6) in the midst of prolonged slumps and free-agent acquisition Willy Adames still struggling to find his footing, the Giants have been forced make desperate moves for offensive production, such as signing free agent Dominic Smith and inserted right into the fifth spot in the order.
Former MLB Executive Names Orioles Slugger as Favorite Giants Trade Target
The San Francisco Giants have proven to be a legitimate playoff contender this year, keeping pace with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres in the loaded National League West race. The pitching staff has been excellent all year long, good enough for the team to compete. It won't be any easier in the foreseeable future with star third baseman Matt Chapman heading to the injured list, but other players are going to have to step up in his absence. The Giants are patiently waiting for their free agent splash, Willy Adames, to start producing at the level he showed he was capable of during a career 2024.
SF Giants' stunning ninth-inning comeback extends winning streak to six
The Giants are never out of a ballgame. Hours after Matt Chapman was placed on the 10-day injured list with right hand inflammation, the Giants (39-28) scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to erase a three-run deficit and stun the Colorado Rockies, 6-5. “I feel like as a team, we've been doing that all year,” Adames told reporters in Denver. With Tuesday night's one-run win, the Giants become the fourth team since 1901 to win six consecutive one-run games, joining the 1989 California Angels, 1927 Chicago Cubs (seven games) and 1916 St. Louis Browns.
Robbie Ray, battle-tested Giants take aim at lowly Rockies
The San Francisco Giants apparently are more comfortable with nail-biters than blowouts. San Francisco is setting the pace in the majors with 29 one-run games and played in its eighth straight such contest Tuesday night, winning 6-5 over the Colorado Rockies in dramatic fashion in Denver. The Giants will go for their seventh straight victory on Wednesday with Robbie Ray (8-1, 2.44 ERA) pitching against Colorado's Kyle Freeland (1-8, 5.19) in a matchup of left-handers. San Francisco again won't have third baseman Matt Chapman available after he was placed on the 10-day injured list with a hand injury sustained on Sunday against Atlanta.

Giants place 3B Matt Chapman (hand) on IL
San Francisco Giants standout third baseman Matt Chapman was placed on the 10-day injured list due to right hand inflammation prior to Tuesday's game against the host Colorado Rockies. Chapman injured the hand while being picked off during Sunday's game against the Houston Astros. He jammed it while diving back to first base in the bottom of the eighth inning and immediately displayed he was in pain. Chapman, 32, finished out the game and underwent X-rays, which came back negative. Still, the inflammation remained the following day and then a move was made on Tuesday. The five-time Gold Glove winner is batting .243 with 12 homers and 30 RBIs in 65 games this season. He is in his second season
